Maglev

Maglev or Magnetic Levitation is a system of transportation that suspends guides and propels vehicles, predominantly trains, using magnetic forces. This method has the potential to be faster, quieter and smoother than wheeled mass transit systems, potentially reaching velocities comparable to jet aircraft . Maglev or Magnetic Levitation is a system of transportation that suspends guides and propels vehicles, predominantly trains, using magnetic forces. a.     PROBLEM STATEMENT:-

·           Make a maglev toy train model along with track which will use magnets and     max 12VD.C.or 220V A.C. as the only source of energy to race a 10 ft of guided track in the minimum time.

·          Design of track (guided) is up to you & it has nothing to do with judging criteria, it must be straight and even everywhere. You have to cover a total distance of 10ft in least possible time with a train, length of which should not exceed 5 in.

b.    SPECIFICATIONS:-

·        The train model cannot use any other energy source than what mentioned above. No pre-tensioned springs, elastics, combustion or compressed energy sources are allowed. Train model should be at a complete state of rest at the beginning of the run. The judges hold the rights to disqualify the model, if they are not convinced.
·          Train model cannot be constructed using readymade Lego kits or any readymade mechanism. Violating this clause will lead to disqualification of the models. Judges hold the right to subjectively evaluate this clause.
·        The train model must be autonomous and cannot be externally controlled.

c.                   COMPETITION DETAILS:

·        Each train will be given three runs, and the run in which it takes the least time to cover a distance of 10ft on its own designed  guided track will be counted. However if the train does not complete the mentioned distance in 7 minutes, the distance travelled by it will be noted down. Sufficient time will be provided between the consecutive runs for minor changes.
·        The machine which takes the least time using least power source to cover the mentioned distance or the train which will travel furthest in 7 minutes will be the winner.
·        The team is only allowed to touch his model once at the start of the race, however if he wishes to touch the train, he needs to restart from the start line and the total time from the first run will be counted. The handling time is also included in the total race time and no extra time will be allocated. Judges hold the rights to disqualify a team if they find any discrepancy.

d.    ELIGIBLITY CRITERIA

·              A team must consist of maximum of 5 participants. Students from different educational institutes can form a team.
·              Any team that is not ready at the time specified will be disqualified from the competition automatically.

e.   The teams must adhere to the spirit of healthy competition. The teams must not damage the opponent's model in any way. Judges reserve the right to disqualify any team indulging in misbehavior.
